Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1976 Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. Then, in 1992 she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. She covered many notable reports, including arms control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
